Early Stage Researcher 13

My name is Marta and I am a biomedical engineer from Italy. I obtained my bachelor degree from Politecnico di Milano in 2017 and my Master’s degree from Eindhoven University of Technology in 2020. My background spans from biomechanics to image processing. I have always been interested in nature and the complexity of human physiology. I have a special interest in the role of mechanical loads and deformations in development and pathology. In this context, my goal as a biomedical engineer is to create and adapt technology to interact with the human body in order to gain a deeper understanding of these underlying mechanisms. I also believe that the challenge of our generation is to create a solid bond between the clinical and the technical communities, which is the reason why I decided to become part of the MeDiTATe training network. My hope is to contribute in bringing new knowledge about aneurysms and to make noninvasive biomechanical estimations accessible to clinicians around the world.
I am a PhD student in Ecole des Mines de Saint Etienne since January 2021. The goal of my project is to determine the biomechanical properties of the abdominal aortic aneurysm wall through non-invasive ultrasound based estimations. During my first year, I have been working on the development of a strain detection method at Università degli Studi di Roma ‘Tor Vergata’, my hiring academic institution. In November 2021 I have started a long secondment at Ecole des Mines, where I am focusing on biomechanical simulations. In August 2022 I will move to the industrial host institution, Philips Research in Paris, working on clinical validations.
