Early Stage Researcher 11

I am Monica Emendi. I come from Italy. I obtained my Bachelor (2016) and Master of Science (2019) in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano. My Master thesis focused on a patient-specific fluid-structure interaction model of a bicuspid aortic valve. I did it in collaboration with Stony Brook University (NY, USA), jonining the Biofluids Research Group. During this period I had the opppotunity to deepen my knowledge in computational biomechanics and patient-specific models, working in an international environment. I then worked on a research project on PET/MR imaging with the overall aim to improve breast cancer diagnosis.
As ESR 11 of the Meditate project I joined the Medical Technology Research Group at SINTEF, Trondheim, Norway. For the industrial part of the project I will work at HSL, an additive manufacturing facility located in Trento. I am enrolled in the PhD school of University of Tor Vergata, Rome.
My project focuses on image guided navigation technology in the endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm (EVAR). The overall aim of the project is to improve EVAR, minimizing the contrast dose and the radiation exposure during the procedure. In details, I am working to achieve a prediction of the deformations induced by the devices inserted in the aorta during EVAR, with the aim to improve image fusion accuracy between pre and intra-operative images. Moreover, patient-specific additive manufactured models that could be used for training, pre-operative planning purposes and testing of innovative navigation technologies will be obtained.
